BTU Capacity

BTU (British Thermal Unit) capacity determines how much cooling power your aircon delivers. Choosing the wrong capacity is one of the most common and costly mistakes homeowners make.

An undersized unit runs constantly at full power, struggling to cool the room. This wastes electricity and wears out the compressor years before its time. An oversized unit cools the room too quickly, causing the compressor to cycle on and off frequently. This short-cycling reduces dehumidification, leaves the air feeling clammy, and also shortens compressor life.

We calculate the correct BTU for each room based on:

• Ceiling height (standard 2.6m for HDB, higher for condos and landed)

Installation for Different Property Types

HDB Flats

Most newer HDB BTO flats come with pre-installed piping points, which simplifies installation significantly. The copper piping route is already planned, and the condenser ledge or bracket location is predetermined. For these flats, installation focuses on mounting the indoor units, connecting to existing piping points, and setting up the condenser.

Older HDB resale flats may not have pre-installed piping. In these cases, we plan the piping route, install trunking to conceal the copper pipes, and identify the best condenser location — typically on the external wall near the service yard or common corridor (subject to town council regulations).

Condos

Condo installations vary widely depending on the development’s age and design. Some condos have dedicated aircon ledges with pre-run piping. Others require new piping runs through false ceilings or along walls with trunking.

Key considerations for condo installation include:

• Management approval for condenser placement
• Noise restrictions that affect condenser model selection
• False ceiling access for concealed piping runs
• Drainage connection to the nearest discharge point

Landed Properties

Landed homes typically involve longer copper piping runs between indoor and outdoor units, especially for multi-storey properties. The condenser may be placed on the ground floor, roof, or a dedicated platform.

We handle the additional complexity of landed installations including:

• Multi-storey piping runs with proper insulation
• Multiple condenser placement for homes with 6 or more indoor units
• Electrical supply assessment (some older landed properties need wiring upgrades)
• Integration with existing ducted or centralised systems

What Happens During Installation

On installation day, our team arrives with all equipment, including the aircon units, copper piping, trunking, condensate drain materials, mounting brackets, and electrical supplies.

The indoor fan coil unit is mounted on the wall at the correct height and position for optimal airflow. Copper piping is run from the indoor unit to the outdoor condenser location, with proper insulation to prevent condensation. The condensate drain is routed with a slight downward slope to ensure water flows freely to the discharge point — incorrect slope is a common cause of aircon water leaks.

The outdoor condenser is mounted on the bracket or ledge, connected to the copper piping, and secured. All piping joints are flared and tightened to specification to prevent refrigerant leaks.

Once physical installation is complete, the system is vacuum-tested to remove moisture and air from the piping. Refrigerant is then charged to the manufacturer’s specification. Each unit is tested for cooling performance, and we verify that drainage is functioning correctly.

After Installation

We register the manufacturer warranty on your behalf and provide you with all documentation. Most manufacturers offer 1 year on parts and labour, with an extended 5-year warranty on the compressor.
