What Does Installation Include?

Billy Aircon handles complete aircon installation for all property types in Singapore — from 3-room HDB flats to large landed homes. We help you choose the right BTU capacity, recommend suitable brands, and deliver clean copper piping and trunking work that meets BCA standards.

Why Professional Installation Matters

A properly installed aircon runs more efficiently, lasts longer, and causes fewer problems than one that was hastily or incorrectly fitted. In Singapore, where your aircon runs nearly every day of the year, installation quality has a direct impact on your long-term costs and comfort.

Poor installation leads to common issues: refrigerant leaks from badly flared copper piping, water leaks from incorrectly sloped condensate drains, excessive noise from poorly mounted condenser units, and premature compressor failure from incorrect gas charging. These problems are expensive to fix and entirely avoidable with proper installation from the start.

Billy Aircon’s installation service covers every step — from the initial site survey and BTU calculation to the final testing and handover. We install for HDB flats, condos, and landed properties across Singapore.

Choosing the Right Aircon for Your Property

BTU Capacity

BTU (British Thermal Unit) capacity determines how much cooling power your aircon delivers. Choosing the wrong capacity is one of the most common and costly mistakes homeowners make.

An undersized unit runs constantly at full power, struggling to cool the room. This wastes electricity and wears out the compressor years before its time. An oversized unit cools the room too quickly, causing the compressor to cycle on and off frequently. This short-cycling reduces dehumidification, leaves the air feeling clammy, and also shortens compressor life.

We calculate the correct BTU for each room based on:

  • Floor area in square feet
  • Ceiling height (standard 2.6m for HDB, higher for condos and landed)
  • Number and size of windows
  • Sun exposure (west-facing rooms need more cooling)
  • Typical occupancy (bedrooms vs living rooms)
  • Heat-generating equipment (kitchens, server rooms)

Inverter vs Non-Inverter Systems

Inverter systems use a variable-speed compressor that adjusts its output based on cooling demand. When the room is nearly at the set temperature, the compressor slows down rather than shutting off completely. This results in 30-50% lower electricity consumption compared to non-inverter models, plus more consistent temperature control and quieter operation.

Non-inverter systems use a fixed-speed compressor that is either fully on or fully off. They cost less upfront but consume more electricity over time. These suit rooms that are used only occasionally — guest rooms, storerooms, or utility spaces.

For Singapore’s climate, where aircon runs 8-12 hours daily in most households, inverter systems are the better long-term investment.

Brand Options

We install all major brands available in Singapore:

  • Daikin — Known for reliability and energy efficiency. Popular choice for HDB and condo installations. Wide range of models from budget to premium.
  • Mitsubishi Electric — Excellent build quality and quiet operation. The Starmex series is a long-time favourite in Singapore.
  • Panasonic — Good balance of features and price. Nanoe-X air purification technology available on selected models.
  • LG — Competitive pricing with dual inverter technology. Good option for budget-conscious buyers.
  • Samsung — Wind-Free cooling technology for gentle airflow. Strong warranty support in Singapore.

Our technicians can advise on the best brand for your specific needs during the site survey.

Installation for Different Property Types

HDB Flats

Most newer HDB BTO flats come with pre-installed piping points, which simplifies installation significantly. The copper piping route is already planned, and the condenser ledge or bracket location is predetermined. For these flats, installation focuses on mounting the indoor units, connecting to existing piping points, and setting up the condenser.

Older HDB resale flats may not have pre-installed piping. In these cases, we plan the piping route, install trunking to conceal the copper pipes, and identify the best condenser location — typically on the external wall near the service yard or common corridor (subject to town council regulations).

Condos

Condo installations vary widely depending on the development’s age and design. Some condos have dedicated aircon ledges with pre-run piping. Others require new piping runs through false ceilings or along walls with trunking.

Key considerations for condo installation include:

  • Management approval for condenser placement
  • Noise restrictions that affect condenser model selection
  • False ceiling access for concealed piping runs
  • Drainage connection to the nearest discharge point

Landed Properties

Landed homes typically involve longer copper piping runs between indoor and outdoor units, especially for multi-storey properties. The condenser may be placed on the ground floor, roof, or a dedicated platform.

We handle the additional complexity of landed installations including:

  • Multi-storey piping runs with proper insulation
  • Multiple condenser placement for homes with 6 or more indoor units
  • Electrical supply assessment (some older landed properties need wiring upgrades)
  • Integration with existing ducted or centralised systems

What Happens During Installation

On installation day, our team arrives with all equipment, including the aircon units, copper piping, trunking, condensate drain materials, mounting brackets, and electrical supplies.

The indoor fan coil unit is mounted on the wall at the correct height and position for optimal airflow. Copper piping is run from the indoor unit to the outdoor condenser location, with proper insulation to prevent condensation. The condensate drain is routed with a slight downward slope to ensure water flows freely to the discharge point — incorrect slope is a common cause of aircon water leaks.

The outdoor condenser is mounted on the bracket or ledge, connected to the copper piping, and secured. All piping joints are flared and tightened to specification to prevent refrigerant leaks.

Once physical installation is complete, the system is vacuum-tested to remove moisture and air from the piping. Refrigerant is then charged to the manufacturer’s specification. Each unit is tested for cooling performance, and we verify that drainage is functioning correctly.

After Installation

We register the manufacturer warranty on your behalf and provide you with all documentation. Most manufacturers offer 1 year on parts and labour, with an extended 5-year warranty on the compressor. As a trusted provider of aircon servicing in Singapore, Billy Aircon stands behind every installation we complete.

To keep your new aircon running optimally, we recommend scheduling regular servicing every 3 months. This preventive maintenance protects your investment and ensures your system performs efficiently throughout its lifespan.

Frequently Asked Questions About Installation

Got questions? We've got answers. Can't find what you need? WhatsApp us.

How do I choose the right BTU capacity for my room?
As a general guide, a 9,000 BTU unit suits rooms up to 150 sq ft, 12,000 BTU for 150-250 sq ft, 18,000 BTU for 250-400 sq ft, and 24,000 BTU for 400-550 sq ft. However, factors like ceiling height, window size, sun exposure, and the number of occupants affect the calculation. Our site survey provides exact recommendations.
Should I choose inverter or non-inverter aircon?
Inverter systems cost more upfront but consume 30-50% less electricity over time because the compressor adjusts speed based on cooling demand. For rooms used more than 6 hours daily, inverter systems pay for themselves within 2-3 years. Non-inverter units suit rooms with occasional use.
What brands do you install?
We install all major brands available in Singapore including Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Midea, and Toshiba. We can advise on the best brand for your budget and requirements during the site survey.
How long does aircon installation take?
A typical HDB installation of 3-4 units takes one full day. Condo installations may take 1-2 days depending on piping complexity. Landed properties with longer condenser runs or multiple floors may require 2-3 days. We provide a timeline during the quotation stage.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for installation?
Please ensure the installation areas are clear of furniture and personal items. For HDB BTO flats, check if your piping points are pre-installed. For older properties, we will assess existing piping and electrical points during the site survey and advise on any preparation needed.
